I have begun writing again. I always was a writer at heart. I probably should have kept up with my communications major, or at least switched to English, but too late to change that now. Maybe I'll get my masters in English. Anyways, I've begun writing again. I don't know what will come of it. Right now I'm writing bits and pieces of storylines as they come to me. I'll put them together into workable creations later. I'd ultimately like to create my own fantasy world, like Narnia, Harry Potter, Ender's Game. Basically my favorite books. But then again, I'm also a sucker for romance. Reading Jane Austen certainly doesn't help with the fantasy inspirations. We'll see if anything catches.
I just finished reading The Great Gatsby. Backing up a bit, I loved Sense and Sensibility. But that was to be expected. Emma is still my favorite Austen though. Now on to F. Scott Fitzgerald. I was supposed to read it in high school. I did well in English class, but I know I never read this book before. I did read the part where Myrtle gets hit by the car, I think someone told me to actually read that chapter. But for the most part I think I relied on very brief skimming and a friend telling me the basics. And remarkably I got an A in that class and I don't think the teacher ever knew I didn't read his books. I wasn't a bad student, I just wasn't interested in male authors back them. Anyways, it's a great book. Excellent. Men and women write so differently. I highly recommend it. And if you're in high school, read it when you're supposed to. It's a good one.
Now I'm reading some fantasy books my Dad bought me when I was still in grade school. I think I read bits and pieces of them, four books of short stories by George MacDonald, but I don't remember them. I went through all the books I own and pulled out the ones I either haven't read or don't remember. I figure I should read these before spending more money on books!
I watched Atonement yesterday for the first time. After "Becoming Jane" came out I hoped James McAvoy would be paired with Keira Knightley, so I can hardly believe I haven't watched it before now. I wasn't disappointed. The only grievance I faced was the horrid sister getting her way. I generally like realistic movies where everything doesn't end on a happy note, but this was slightly awful. Though, probably happened more than a happy ending. I did enjoy it though and am glad I bought it. Maybe someday Matt will watch it with me.
Chicken quesadillas tonight for dinner. Tomorrow I'm babysitting one of my favorites families at the school! It will be so much fun. I've missed those kids. Then one week of freedom left until work work work. I have had a nice long summer. Ready to get back to it.
