The kitty continues to be all that we imagined her to be... and more. She is the most perfect kitten ever! Well, my Maddie cat was a pretty perfect companion as well, but we found her under a car. She was little more needy than this kitty. Emily is just the perfect amount of needy. When I wake up in the morning she comes running after me, curls around my legs the way cats do, and meows until I give her some good scratches and a hug. I think she gets lonely at night when Matt and I are sleeping. She is also just the right amount of independent. She will play with her tail for hours and chases after dust bunnies all over the house. She can certianly entertain herself. She likes to sit with Matt and I when we're watching tv. She just sits next to us and purrs. She'll usually end up crawling into my lap and settling in for a nap. She took three naps today on my lap at one time or another. I like it though, she makes a good snuggly blanket.
Emily did have one oops accident today. I'm not sure what happened. She came running up to me like usual and jumped up on my lap. I picked her up and thought she smelled kind of funny. I was petting her back when I felt something sticky. She had a big wad of something in her fur (what I think was a small piece of poo) and her back paws were a little wet. I assumed she had an accident somewhere and she was wet with poo and pee. I immediately put her on the floor, command her to give herself a good washing, and go wash my hands. I found a small poo piece on the floor next to the litter box and on the floor next to it were poo markings. It appeared she had been scooting around on the floor with some poo stuck to her bottom. I don't think this is what happened, but it looked like it. I cleaned the mess and sat back down. She came trotting back over. I picked her up to see if she had given herself a bath. Nope. So I had to do it. Cats don't generally like water. Emily is no exception. I only filled the tub to her ankles and made sure it was a scotch past lukewarm. I stuck her in and she tried to jump out a few times but I held her in there and spoke soothing words. Eventually she calmed down enough to let me sponge her clean. I used my shampoo... I hope it doesn't poison her. I'm going to buy her some pet shampoo this weekend. I washed her and rinsed her and them wrapped her up in our biggest towel so she'd be warm. I snuggled with her for a while after that until she stopped shivering and calmed down. She looked so sad and pathetic when she was all wet with her fur sticking to her body. I tried to dry her as much as possibly but she ending up licking herself dry. I brushed her good after that and now I have a beautiful fluffy kitten. And she is all clean. Hopefully she won't have any other accidents. At least she didn't poo under our bed. That would not have been pleasant.
She is a wonderful kitty. She is so perfect for our house. She is so happy with us too. I am glad we were able to rescue her. She had been at the shelter for quite awhile and I think she was on the roster to be euthanized pretty soon. So sad. I always wanted to work at an Animal Shelter when I was a kid, but I wouldn't be able to handle it when the pets had to be euthanized. At least we were able to save one. And she is such a wonderful little baby bunny. I will always call her my Emily Bunny, no matter how much it bothers Matthew!
More good news! Matthew is moving to the day schedule in December. Yay. And he just got a promotion! He is now a Mental Health Counselor 2. Doesn't sound all that fabulous, but it comes with a very nice raise. It almost doubles his paychecks each time! Pretty much amazing. I am so proud of him and all his hard work. He is so good at what he does. We have truly been blessed.
My family is bumming pretty hard that we're not planning on making it up for the holidays. I think my mom is about ready to pay for our plane tickets and pay us to come since our main reason is not wanting Matt to take off work. It's a very tempting offer, but we need to be a little independent. Maybe we will be able to come home. Or maybe we can convince them all just to come down here for a nice visit. My parents just came, but it would be nice to see the kids and my sisters and brother-in-law. Wow, what a list. I should have just said "my family". At least one of our families will be here for the holidays. It will be so nice to all be together again.
The end. Abrupt.
