It's a good thing I love my job. Working with kids is no peaches and cream, let me tell you. Of course, I have an exceptional class this year- which makes it that much easier going in to work. The first week went much better than expected. Only one of my kids cried at drop off the whole week, which is amazing for three-year-olds. This child only cried one day mid-week too! I think she was just tired because I know she enjoys school. Most of my kids get along well with each other. Since we have a huge room there are always enough toys for them to play without having too many squabbles over sharing. Of course, there are the occasional times when one child thinks he/she needs every single music maker in our classroom. Yeah, we definitely have enough for a class double our size! Kids can be so funny! (Of course, so can adults...) The afternoons go by fairly quickly. The kids nap and I get to come home for a lunch break. I read while they are napping and then we have snack and play outside until they are picked up. Not a bad schedule. Several of my parents have told me their child cannot stop talking about me at home. I must be doing something right! I feel like I've made connections with each child individually and have set up a nice flexible schedule for them to follow. It's been a good week. I am definitely ready to take full advantage of this long weekend though. Getting back into the working routine and working with young children is very tiring. All good practice for mommy-hood someday.
This morning I played the role of domestic housewife. My usual Saturday morning routine during the school year. I work up shortly after Matthew left for work. I cleaned the house for 2.5 hours! I had been cleaning random parts of it throughout the summer when I noticed it needed a vacuum or dusting, but I just kept finding things to be cleaned! We have a good sized apartment so it took awhile to vacuum the whole thing, move around some furniture to dig out cat toys for Emily, and sanitize all surfaces. I am the most lazy in the bathroom. I hate cleaning the bathroom. The shower got a good scrubbing as did the toilet and sink. Half the walls are tiled so those got a wipe down too. Thankfully, Matt and I aren't that messy in the bathroom. It definitely was in need of a good cleaning though. I then rearranged our living room slightly. All the furniture is still in place but I finally hung up my birthday painting. I didn't put it over the couch like I originally planned, instead I moved around a collage picture frame I have. I made use of the nails already in the walls and just swapped out some older pictures. It's good enough for now. I am very excited to have a new living room to decorate (and the rest of the house for that matter). We're still hoping for next summer!
I worked out for about two hours after that. Been busy busy busy this morning. I have decided that I hate hate hate my back. It just looks all wrong, in my opinion. My friends tell me I'm crazy and they don't know what I'm talking about, but friends always say that! I don't quite know how to work on the areas I want targeted. I've been doing jumping jacks for awhile and also chest presses... I'll try to find some other moves for the shoulder blade area. It's such a random odd place for exercises, but I'm sure there are some! It will be nice when we have gym memberships and i can hopefully take part in some classes. We keep putting it off though. I'm not sure when I would fit it in.
I'm currently reading C.S. Lewis' The Weight of Glory. It's a collection of some of his sermons he gave at various institutions. It's actually very applicable to modern times. Very interesting. I highly recommend it. Next I'm going to pamper myself with another of Jane Austen's novels Matt got me for my birthday. I'm trying to read them sparingly or else I would've read all of them in a week's time!
Another load of laundry should be finished in the dryer now. Last week the dryer broke so we had to hang our laundry all over the house to dry! I don't know if you've ever line dried your clothes, but I think people who still do it are crazy! Instead of being soft and fluffy after being dried in a dryer, all our clothes turned out hard and nasty-like. I re-washed most of it today. So we're doing more loads of laundry today than normal. At least our laundry is included in our rent. Just another blessing for us to count.
Thoroughly enjoy the long weekend! It promises to be a good one if you let it.
