Lunch time. Second day on the job. Well, second day of training. Training is always easy. It's a lot of information, but it all makes sense so far. I'm sure with some practice I'll be able to maneuver my way around these different programs without even thinking twice about it.
I have a small training class of five which I enjoy. It's nice having so few trainees because we get more personal attention that way. Very nice when you have so much information to learn. I'm beginning to like the sounds of my position more and more. It's the perfect fit (out of the four positions in this department) for me. It's phone work, but I'll be helping people figure out their programs and how to do an online course. It's definitely helped since I've had an online course before. I'll still have to update myself on how things work now since Blackboard and Assist are set up differently, but I'll be able to give basic instructions at least. It should be good once I get the hang of it. One thing that is kind of frustrating is working with a keyboard! I'm so used to laptops that these stand out keys are kind of difficult for me. I constantly bump into keys I don't want to use and spell things incorrectly and all that. Oh well, just another adjustment I'll have to make.
We got our ID tags yesterday. That's something I've looked forward to. It seems so silly, but I've always wanted an ID tag to unlock doors. I also really love those belt loop hangers with the pulley ropes! Silly, again, but my dad had one growing up and at conferences we'd have them sometimes. They're fun to play with and make me feel more like a "grown up". Then when we got in high school Erika had one for her job. I applied there because of it actually, but there weren't any openings at the time. At all the jobs I've had previously we never had a neat-o pulley tag. I had one at J.Crew to log in my time card and such with, but I had to go out and buy a pulley tag clip. It was actually the one I used for my Israel trip also. Now i have a nice neat ID tag that will unlock doors and has a heavy duty pulley clip! Woot. I know, I'm so juvenile sometimes.
We have an hour for lunch. It's too long. I almost wish we had a half hour that was paid instead of an unpaid full hour. Sigh. I ate my lunch in like 10 minutes and have been sitting here on the computer the rest of the time. I brought my book to read but haven't really had the desire to pull it out yet. I'm reading Gulliver's Travels again. Yes, again. I've started it three other times and have got through most of his fun, adventurous, satirical worlds but have never made it all the way to the end. This time it will be different! I'm understanding a lot of the satire more than before. I'm growing older and wiser. Hooray. Maybe it'll make the whole book more interesting and more appealing to finish. Let's hope so.
Well, time for a quick bathroom break... then some more internet surfing... then a meeting with my new Director and Assistant Directors! I already know I get along great with my Director, he was in my interview and we seemed to hit it off. Hopefully I'll fit in well with the team. I'm excited to get working for real. Training is fun and I am always a perpetual student so I really don't mind the "class-like" setting, but it does make for a long day. The one thing about phone work is that is does make the day go by so much quicker.
And out.
