This job is going to be such a blessing. We have been praying for an opening at LU since spring. Matthew and I will work through our graduate programs. Depending on how heavy a course load Matthew can handle while still working full time, we might be able to finish our programs before baby time. That is a definite goal. But we're prepared to pay for part of Matt's tuition since his program is longer than mine. The salary at this job will be a welcome addition to our bank accounts. We're planning on putting most of it into savings, which also splurging a little here and there. Matt thinks we should try to get me a "new" car next summer. I've been craving a VW Passat for the past couple years... but we probably won't buy any vehicles. Both of our cars are in great working order and are completely paid off. It would be a waste of money to try to upgrade before we need too. Plus, when babies two and three come along (possibly even for baby number one if we're still in Virginia and need to travel) we'll probably be investing in a mini van. Of course, who knows what our future holds. How many kids or what kinds of cars. It isn't important right now. But we probably will splurge on some smaller items. And by smaller, I mean not double digit thousands of dollars. We are in desperate need of a new bed. We've been cohabitating in a full... that's right, a full size bed! Now, Matt and I are pretty small people, but it still isn't ideal. I'm a wiggler (horrible wiggler) and he's a light sleeper. You can imagine. So we're looking for a new King sized bed. And of course, I would want to get a whole matching bedroom set while we're at it. I already know which set I want! I'll probably get a Macbook since my computer has more bad days than good. Possibly a new couch for our living room. We like our living furniture now, but it's very old and we'd really like something more neutral. Of course, we might not get new furniture until we move... still hoping for next summer on that one. So the extra income will definitely be nice. We'll also try to transfer our health insurance through Liberty. We have the same company as Liberty uses, but we're paying for it all out of pocket right now. That's about $290 a month. We'd definitely enjoy pocketing that cash instead.
The downside to switching jobs is saying goodbye to my amazing class. I have such sweet kids and I will hate leaving them. I have already made such strong connections with each of the kids and have learned what their learning styles are. I hope whoever ends up teaching my class when I leave will be patient, understanding, and loving with them. I will miss them horribly. My last day is this Friday. I found out about my new job on Monday. Not a lot of time to say goodbye. The parents found out I'm leaving today. I'm going to tell the kids tomorrow. Hopefully they'll understand so it won't be a shock next Monday when I don't come in to the school. I will miss teaching. I never thought I wanted to teach but it seems to fit me well. I'd love to go back to teaching preschool after our kids are in school.
My parents were here for Sunday and Monday! So they were here to celebrate my new job with me. Unfortunately, I was extremely sad and not very excited when I first accepted the job. So I was a bit of a sour puss, but they understood. My parents are so loving and generous. Whenever they visit (or when we visit them) they spoil us rotten. We went grocery shopping, of course, and I have never before had such a loaded cart! Including when I was growing up and my mom would shop for the family for a month! We have a full freezer right now! It should last us a good long while. We got lots of goodies that are splurges in our budget. Like pepperidge farm cookies! My mom and I also went clothes shopping! I had to get some new work clothes! I got enough new outfits to feel professional and chic. I also got a new silver bangle watch. I was going to buy a new battery for an old silver bangle watch I had from Mexico, but it was scratched up and it would open on it's own and fall off sometimes. So a new, improved watch was in order. We bought a few house hold goods as well. My mom and I basically went crazy! My mom is a giver and my dad loves to spoil his girls. Thankfully, I dad is in a profession where he can afford to spoil his girls (wife and three daughters). Don't worry, Matthew got a treat too... Guitar Hero 5. Yup.
So yes, that's the life update. Other than that, I said goodbye to Savannah for a long time last Sunday. She's going to the Philippines for 2 years. I'll miss her so so much but I am so proud of her and her ministry. Hmm, seems like a lot of goodbyes have been happening in my life lately. Sigh. The cost of growing up.
I have a new job! Praise the Lord!
