I just need to say that God is so good! Indeed, He is! In the past two days He has shown me how much He loves me by providing for the minutest details in my life. Briefly, Matthew and I had some amazing talks on the rides to and from Roanoke about our relationship, our marriage, our past, our future... basically us. Matthew told me some of what was on his heart, things that I had been praying and thinking about myself! We were able to resolve some of the rough patches in our marriage and able to more clearly paint a picture of our future (Of course, this is subject to change! You never know where God will send you!). It was so refreshing to know that Matt had been thinking and praying about the same things I had been. We generally talk about everything and pray about things together, but these were a few of the things we sought God's counsel on separately before entering into our communications together. God is so good. He will direct all our paths. We never need worry, which I find myself caught up in far too often .
Today was an incredible day. I don't remember the last time Matt and I were able to wake up together since I work every week day and he works during the week and weekends. We had Friday together and today and we have this coming Friday together. It is so incredibly refreshing being able to slowly wake up with the one you love. Not having to rush to get ready for work and sometimes fighting over who used up all the hot water that morning. Today we slept in as late as we could and then woke up to leisurely put ourselves together. We had decided to spend the day in Roanoke, about an hour away.
The drive was nice and overcast, so no sun to shield our eyes from. I loved the drive because we talked the whole way. We reflected on how when we first started dating and we would take long drives together (usually to and from Michigan to Liberty) we would end up fighting. Back in those days we would often fight about where our relationship was going and his ex-girlfriend. Both subject my fault because I knew I was going to marry him a year before we began dating and I couldn't understand why he stayed in his old relationship for as long as he did... but that's another story for another time. Anyways, we laughed over how much we used to fight. It was a fun car trip.
We started out at the mall. We didn't want to spend a lot of money today just because we had it. We've been doing that all too often so we decided we needed to set a spending limit. Well, after a couple hours of perusing we left with only two books for me: Peter Pan and Brave New World. I have a rather large book list that I've tried to order in the the order I want to read them. Those were at the top today. We bought a delicious cookies and cream caramel apple to snack on as we shopped. Very messy. We tried to find me some dresses for the wedding this summer and our anniversary but still had no luck. Everything was too big even if I did like the pattern. I hate being petite at times like this. Matthew got fitted for his tux for the wedding and we called it good. There was nothing that jumped out at us that we had to have. We talked about a couple different gaming systems we've been looking at. Somehow I think we're going to end up getting a Wii pretty soon. We miss my old Nintendo 64 but my nephews confiscated it. We liked playing Mario Party, I know, right?
We then went and saw Monsters vs. Aliens. It was pretty cute. Not my favorite to come out in recent years. I have started classifying animated movies by old (Snow White through Atlantis) and new (everything after Toy Story or a Bug's Life). This one wasn't a fave in either category. But it was still cute and funny. I liked that it had Reese Witherspoon and Keifer Sutherland in it. It was fun and we haven't been to a movie since... I am Legend! haha. So a long time.
We walked across the street and had a delicious dinner at Logan's. We just love Logan's, what's not to love? I had a bowl of soup and a salad and Matt had a burger and fries. We usually get chicken and steak so the bill was a lot cheaper than we were expecting!
We then headed back home. It was such an enjoyable afternoon. It made me realize how much I missed just hanging out with Matt. He said he had started realizing that he has a fun wife (his words, not mine) and he wasn't taking advantage of it. We used to do all sorts of fun things prior to marriage. Now we feel like we're doing stuff together because we're in the same house. But we're usually in different rooms since I don't like a lot of noise when I read and he likes playing videogames. It was nice to spend some good quality time with each other away from the computers, TV, and books.
We arrived home late and found a huge package! It was full of Easter goodies for Matthew and I and... drumroll... a new spring COACH PURSE and WRISTLET!!! Eeek! I immediately called my mom for an explanation. She just said she felt like I needed some encouragement! Well, I surely am encouraged! It is perfect for spring. It has large C's on it in pink, green, purple, orange, and yellow. The wristlet is matching, which is perfect because I wanted a wristlet for the weddig this summer so I didn't have to carry around a bulky purse. I am so spoiled! This is my fourth coach purse! I love it. She did such a great job picking it out! I got a Coach purse for Valentine's Day from my husband but I've been wanting a spring colored purse. Perfect timing!
Yes, today was an incredible day. I love my family. I love my husband. I love my God.
